Which of Thomas and Hannah’s children do you come from?
Three of their children had no children, and “Cresap” is a placeholder (“Mr. Creasap” in our 2003 book) because the progenitors of these Creasap/Cresaps are still being positively identified though they are Cresap kin. At this point, it appears we all descend from Daniel, Thomas, Elizabeth, or Michael -- some of us come down from more than one because later generations intermarried.
If you are just starting your genealogy, work in reverse. Unlike a descendancy, make yourself #1. Work backwards in time through your parents, grandparents, great grandparents, and so on proving each connection as you go. Talk to your oldest family members first to learn their stories and what they know about their elders. Keep notes, take pictures, record conversation (with permission). Then connect your families in to these earlier generations to find your Cresap connections.
The original Cresap Society website was created and copyrighted by our late genealogist, Cheryl Singhal. The website was hosted by Rootsweb from 1996 to 2009. Rootsweb was bought by Ancestry.com. After much wrangling Ancestry.com gave us links to the original data, but we can’t guarantee we will have these links forever.
Bonnie Cresap #5625 of Oregon is coding and transferring all the original data onto our new website so we will always have access to it. Kudos and a big thank you to her!
You can compare and use our old and new links on THE CRESAP SOCIETY PAGES dropdown. You can also use THE DESCENDANTS dropdowns - Generation 0 through Generation 5. The same original data is found in each place. We cannot update the data found on the old site but may add to the new one.
NOTE: The numbers on this archival descendancy do NOT match the books. The numbering system used, The Modified Register System, is the same but our books start with our immigrant, Thomas Cresap as #1. These original Cresap website descendancies start with Generation 0 which is our immigrant’s birth family in Yorkshire, England making his father (also named Thomas) #1.
