Janice Ann Cresap Conklin "Jan" passed away peacefully at home Tuesday, April 26, 2022. Jan was born May 22, 1932, in Thermopolis, Wyo., to parents Mercer and Novella Cresap. She joined a brother, Mercer Jr.
Due to her father's work as a civil engineer, the family made many moves. Janice attended 12 different schools in Wyoming, Idaho, Utah and California before moving to Portland where Jan spent her senior year of high school. After graduation, she attended Oregon State College, graduating in 1955 with a degree in Elementary Ed. Jan met her future husband, Dick Conklin at a fraternity/sorority dinner where they were seated by each other at the ATO house. She made many lifetime friends in her Chi Omega sorority.
Dick and Jan were married after graduation in 1955. Jan began teaching kindergarten in Portland, and the couple moved to Beaverton. After their two children, David and Ann joined the family, Jan stayed home to raise them and later returned to teaching kindergarten at Metzger School in Tigard.
Jan and Dick lived 50 years in their Vista Hills home and then moved to Claremont. They were married 61 years until Dick passed away in 2016. They enjoyed traveling, water sports, attending their kids' and grandkids' activities, bridge groups and their many friends.
Jan loved her PEO sisters Chapter FK, three book groups, growing and arranging her flowers and entertaining. She was a 20-year volunteer for CASA for Children, and a 10-year member of a Washington County Foster Care Board. She was a member of the Local School Committee and a prescient committee woman.
In later years she became an Oregon State Long Term Care Ombudsman for residents of assisted living facilities.
Jan is survived by her son, David P. Conklin, (Fumiko), of Tokyo, Japan; daughter, Ann E. Bergstrom (Dave McDonald) of Tigard; and grandchildren, Sarah and Michael Bergstrom; and five nieces and nephews
